    These seminars afford qualified students an opportunity to participate in faculty research projects. They are offered on an ad hoc basis with the subject matter of the seminar approved by the dean. Examples include oceans policy, contract theory, protection of endangered species, prosecutorial discretion, transnational corporations, privacy, international terrorism, occupational safety and health, utility regulation, and civil rights.

    A student may earn academic credit after the first year (subject to program requirements) for independent study under a contract between the student and a member of the faculty upon approval of the dean. Such study may be a research and writing project for a faculty member. To be approved for credit, an independent study project must be designed to contribute substantially to the student’s development as a lawyer. Additionally, it must be established firmly at the beginning of the project that student and faculty sponsor will work together closely during the course of the project. For precise information on this program, copies of the faculty policy statement are available from the registrar and the dean of students.
