LAW - 857 Banking Law and Regulation


(3 hrs.)

Examines banking, the regulation of banks, and the challenges facing this regulatory scheme. Includes background information and considers the ways in which banking is evolving due to technological and economic developments. The course looks at the conflicting pressures on banks to be more responsive to local community needs and to compete in a global and less easily regulated financial system. Considers the regulatory framework applicable to bank holding companies and explores the debate on the statutory separation between investment and commercial banks. Provides an overview of the regulations applicable to foreign banks operating in the United States and to U.S. banks operating abroad.
