LAW - 551 Professional Responsibility: Theory & Practice

Examines the ethical obligations of the lawyer, includes the Model Code of Professional Responsibility and the Model Rules of Professional Conduct. This course also includes one-credit practice component so that students can see the ethical rules in a practical context. Students represent low-income clients in the District of Columbia and Maryland who require assistance with the drafting of advance directives (living wills, durable powers of attorney for financial matters and for health care decision-making) and wills. Students may register for this class or Legal Ethics (LAW-550) but not both.
