Doctor of Juridical Science, SJD

The SJD program is designed for aspiring legal academics and other legal professions to pursue sustained independent research and writing in a given field of legal specialization. The SJD Program culminates in a dissertation of publishable quality that represents a valuable, original contribution to the scholarship in that candidate’s field. The candidate makes a public presentation and defense of his or her dissertation before an SJD examining committee and members of the law school community. Upon successful completion of SJD program requirements, candidates receive the Doctor of Juridical Science, the most advanced degree offered at the law school.
