The LLM in International Legal Studies offers specializations in international business, trade and investment, international and comparative protection of intellectual property, international commercial arbitration, international environmental law, international organizations, gender and the law, and international human rights law. This program enables graduate students from U.S. and foreign law schools to engage in advanced research and to specialize in the above-mentioned areas through academic study and practical experience. Our widely recognized faculty members are leading practitioners in their fields, have a strong commitment to teaching and strive to equip students with the expertise, skills and understanding necessary to address challenges and promote justice around the world.

LLM Degree Requirements

The LLM degree requires the completion of twenty-four credit hours with a grade point average of 2.0 (C) or better, successful completion of two research papers that demonstrate a high degree of skill in legal scholarship and writing through the Research Track or completion of an externship and one research paper through the Practical Skills Track, and recommendation for the degree by the faculty. In addition to concentrating in one area of specialization, LLM students may complete their degree requirements entirely by traditional classroom study or by classroom study combined with no more than six semester hours of approved externship or independent study credits.  Absent extraordinary circumstances, students must complete the LLM degree within sixty months of matriculating in a given LLM program.
