LLM in International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law

The LLM in International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law is a hybrid master’s program, with both on-site (residential) and online components, which allows for a high quality curricular offering with a flexible and convenient format. Students interact with more than forty world-renowned experts, including human rights and humanitarian law experts from academia, international tribunals, civil society organizations, and international organizations. The degree is offered in both English and Spanish.

LLM Admissions


  • Hold a Juris Doctor (JD) from a US law school accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) or a first degree in law from a foreign law school with equivalent standards. 
  • Submit a completed application form along with supporting documents before the application deadline
  • International applicants must meet the English Language Proficiency Requirement

Degree Requirements


  • Students must successfully complete 24 credit hours from the designated list of classes with a grade point average of 2.0 (C) or better.
  • Students will be required to take both online courses and participate in two in-residence summer sessions.
  • Students are required to complete a total of 4 credits of writing and/or experiential skills through a 2-4 credit research and writing project and/or a 2-4 credit supervised externship
  • Absent extraordinary circumstances, students must complete the LLM degree within sixty months of matriculating in a given LLM program.
